Brown University
“Brown was the first university to offer an M.A. program in public humanities, and so constructing a curriculum required identifying the methods and topics that are central to this emerging field. The program aims to produce thoughtful, skilled public humanities practitioners who can get the jobs they want when they graduate, and who will possess the knowledge and understandings they need to shape the profession in significant ways.”
New York University
“Each year, the Center supports a team of graduate and faculty fellows, clusters of faculty engaged in team-teaching, working research groups, and outreach programs to schools and cultural communities in New York City. The Center also sponsors events for the wide public and assists with the funding of events on campus and NYU’s sites abroad, as well as individual research projects. The Center’s website will provide access to cutting-edge research in the humanities for the global community.”
Yale University
“Developed in response to student initiative beginning in 2007, Public Humanities seeks to expand academic discourse beyond the confines of the classroom, academic publishing, and the academic conference circuit. By cultivating a dialogue with specialists in non-academic areas, students earning a Masters of Arts with a concentration in Public Humanities (en route to a Ph.D. in participating programs) are prepared for public intellectual work such as museum and gallery installation, documentary film and photography, and oral/community history. Our mission is to expand the concept of “audience” by building bridges to a wide range of local and regional institutions and their respective publics.”
University of Wisconsin
“Our unwavering support of public scholarly engagement has helped graduate students and faculty create mutually rewarding partnerships with public schools, prisons, senior centers, hospitals, community gardens, and more. Championing the public humanities, the Center is guided and inspired by the Wisconsin Idea, the principle that the university’s impact on people’s lives should reach beyond the classroom. “
University of Washington
